The PACE Centre provides intensive learning programmes that transform the lives of disabled children and young people. Our aim is to develop children's potential for independence in all areas of development. PACE provides an 'education for life' tailored to each child's individual needs, teaching academic, physical, communication and self-care skills. Services include early intervention services for young disabled children, full time education for nursery and primary aged disabled children, a satellite class in a Special School and a range of outreach and sessional services for all ages at various nurseries, schools and at home.
Unlike other children who are able to acquire skills through natural development, the disabled children who come to PACE need to learn how to look, listen, use their hands, communicate and gain essential mobility skills, whilst also acquiring conceptual and academic skills appropriate to their age and ability.
PACE's 'Education for Life' takes place within a caring and supportive environment, in which our highly skilled trans-disciplinary staff team of Therapists, Teachers, Conductors (qualified Conductive Education specialists) and Learning Support Assistants all work together to meet the learning needs of the children.
Our Mission
At The PACE Centre our mission is to provide an education for life through programmes which incorporate all daily living activities and address the needs of the whole child.
Our Aims
- Develop a wide range of educational programmes inspired by the principles of Conductive Education.
- Prepare specialist therapy and teaching sessions that meet the needs of individual children.
- Establish opportunities for learning amongst staff, parents, volunteers and other professionals in order to increase their understanding of children with motor disorders.
- Provide a caring, happy and stimulating learning environment for children, parents, volunteers and staff.
- Cultivate each child's full potential physically, socially and academically in order to equip them for integration into their local community.
- Through active participation in their own learning, to develop each child's ability to problem solve as well as facilitate their self-confidence and self respect.
- Instil in each child an awareness of others and a sense of responsibility towards others in their home, school and community environments.
The PACE Centre is a charity (Registered Charity No. 1011133). It depends on funding from charitable trusts, businesses, groups and individuals.
